For the first time, the most beautiful textiles pieces of Matsuzakaya's collection were exposed outside Japan, at he National Museum of Asian Arts.
The Kimono Au bonheur des Dames' exposition takes us through a centenary evolution of Japan's fashion since 1603 until the present time.
I've learned that Matsuzakaya played an important role on the production and projection of kimono in the world. Established in 1611, this Japanese popular store has inspired many creators not only in Japan but specially in France, where it first appeared the term Japonisme - the influence of the Japanese art and civilisation on the western Europe's fine arts, sculpture, architecture, performing arts and decorative arts.
Many french fashion designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano or Franck Sorbier got inspired by the kimono's cultural structure
The Musée National des Arts Asiatiques - Guimet also offers an overview of the artistic expressions in many other Asian countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, India or Nepal.
Initially, I decided to visit this place for the Kimono exhibition but, in the end, I've spent my afternoon discovering other lovely masterpieces.
